A composite of many industrial structures in the Wilmington, DE area, John A. Mazza
& Son’s is another in our series of Thin Structure Industry kits. Receiving and
shipping pipe and valves, Mazza’s makes a perfect destination for your boxcars, flat
cars and gondolas. Named in honor of John Mazza, who joined the Pennsylvania Railroad
after World War 2, John worked in the Pennsy shops for many years performing repairs
on steam, diesel and rolling stock. Now in his eighties, John is a living reminder
of when the Pennsy was considered the “Standard Railroad of the World”.
Mazza’s is an enjoyable building experience incorporating three different siding
materials; brick, metal and wood. The brick and metal walls are castings made from
handcrafted masters, while the wood walls are board by board construction on top
of a cast sub-structure. The kit includes a cast base, I-beams, railings, ladder,
jib crane, chain, chimney, roof vents, pipe, valves, roofing, color signs and many
detail parts. Wood is by Northeastern Scale Lumber with Tichy windows and doors.
Complete detailed assembly and painting instructions, templates, and color photographs
are included.
With all of the built-in detail and operating possibilities, Mazza’s will make a
great addition to your layout or diorama.
